Getting started

  • What is Lumi?

Lumi is an AI-native life companion. It brings your tasks, calendar, journal, docs, money, habits and life goals into one place, with an AI companion, also called Lumi, that helps you see today clearly and plan what comes next.

Without AI, it’s a complete set of everyday tools. Turn AI on, and every module understands you a little better. See every module on the features page.

  • Which devices can I use Lumi on?

You can use Lumi for the web in your browser today. It’s in early access, so features are rolling out in stages.

The iPhone, iPad and Mac apps are in development and coming soon to the App Store. Windows and Android versions will follow once the Apple apps and the web app are stable. Every device syncs through Lumi’s own servers. For the latest, see Download.

  • Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes the core of tasks, calendar, journal, money and habits, sync across your devices, and 300,000 tokens a month for AI features on standard models.

Some things have limits, for example 5 habits, 1 ledger and 1 connected calendar account. When you need more, upgrade to Pro or Max, or skip the subscription and buy tokens as you go. See pricing.

  • How does quick capture work?

Type a sentence the way you’d say it, and Lumi works out what it is:

    • “Meeting with Tom tomorrow at 3 pm” → calendar event
    • “Submit the quarterly report by Friday !high” → task
    • “Lunch 35 WeChat” → dining expense · WeChat Pay
    • “Buy milk tomorrow, report due Friday, lunch 35” → split into 3 items to confirm one by one

Each detail appears as a chip you can tap to change. Dates and amounts are parsed locally, so you can save even when you’re offline. On the web, press Q to capture. More on quick capture.

  • Can I import data from other apps?

    Yes. Lumi supports:

    • Money: bill files exported from Alipay and WeChat Pay, plus CSV or Excel files from other budgeting apps or any spreadsheet
    • Tasks: two-way sync with Microsoft To Do

Every import shows a preview and removes duplicates first, and you can undo a whole import afterward. Bill files are read on your device, and the original file is never uploaded. The free plan includes 1 bill import a month. Imports from other task, journal and note-taking apps are coming later.

  • Which languages does Lumi support?

Lumi is available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, German, Spanish, French and Russian.

Quick capture’s local date, amount and list rules support Chinese and English. With AI refinement enabled and available online, Lumi can help interpret input in other languages too. Interface language does not change your data region.

The calendar includes the Chinese lunar calendar, the 24 solar terms, mainland China public holidays and make-up workdays, plus holidays for Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and other major countries. Money supports many currencies, including CNY, HKD, TWD, USD, EUR and JPY.

  • What is the life grid, and what is gentle mode?

The life grid draws your life as small squares: by week by default, or by month or year. Weeks you’ve lived are ink, this week softly glows in dawn orange, and the future is left blank. Life expectancy defaults to 80 and can be set between 60 and 110.

If seeing what’s “left” feels heavy, turn on gentle mode. It shows only what you’ve lived and where you are now. Your birthday is optional, and you can change it any time in Settings → Life. More on Life.

  • How do I contact you or send feedback?

Send feedback in the app under Settings → Help & Feedback, or email support@xicoai.com. It’s our only contact address, and it handles product questions, privacy requests and security reports alike.

Our support tools can’t see your content. The only content we see is what you choose to attach to your feedback. You can also visit our contact page.

Sync & devices

  • How does sync work across devices?

You don’t have to do anything. Each change is saved on your device first, so the screen updates instantly, and then it’s uploaded to Lumi’s servers. The server holds the one final version of your data, and your other devices usually see the change within 1–3 seconds.

If two devices edit the same item, Lumi merges them field by field: change the title on your phone and the date on your laptop, and both edits are kept. Sync status shows at the bottom of the sidebar or in Settings.

  • Can I use Lumi offline?

Yes. Everything that has synced is kept on your device (in your browser for the web app), so you can view, create and edit while offline. The status reads “Offline · changes will sync when you’re back online.”

Once you reconnect, your changes upload automatically and merge with other devices field by field; for the same field, the latest edit wins. In the rare case a change can’t be saved, Lumi lets you know without getting in your way. AI features need a connection, and quick capture uses local parsing while you’re offline.

  • I deleted something by mistake. Can I get it back?

Yes. Deleted tasks, journal entries, docs, transactions and other items go to Recently Deleted first and stay there for 30 days. Restore them any time in that window, and they come back on all your devices.

Anything Lumi deletes for you goes to Recently Deleted too, and Lumi always asks for your confirmation before deleting.

  • How do I connect Google, Microsoft or Apple calendars?

Add an account in Settings → Integrations:

    • Google Calendar and Microsoft (Outlook.com / Microsoft 365): sign in to authorize, then sync both ways. Multiple accounts are supported.
    • Apple Calendar: arrives with the iPhone, iPad and Mac apps. Once you allow calendar access there, Lumi reads and writes your calendars and shows them on the web too. Connecting iCloud Calendar directly from the web is coming later.

The free plan connects 1 calendar account; members get unlimited. Authorization tokens are stored encrypted on our servers, and you can disconnect any time.

  • What is a data region, and can I change it?

Lumi has two data regions, mainland China and global. Your account is tied to one region when you sign up, and it isn’t changed automatically afterward. You can see your region in Settings → Account & Security.

Today the global region is live, with servers in Tokyo, Japan. A mainland China region is being prepared. When it launches, mainland China users’ data will be stored in China, and the region will be picked from your App Store storefront or system region before sign-in, with an option to switch on the sign-in screen.

  • How long does it take to get started on a new device?

Hardly any time. Lumi loads Today, the last 30 days and all your lists first, then fills in the rest in the background. You can see the progress, and you can keep working while it finishes.

From then on, the new device syncs in real time like the others. You can see every signed-in device in Settings → Account & Security.

Lumi & AI

  • What can Lumi do for me?

Lumi is the AI companion that runs through the whole app. It plays four roles:

    • Capture assistant: turns a single sentence into a task, event, expense or journal entry
    • Daily secretary: morning briefings, evening reviews and help planning your day
    • Analyst: answers questions like “How much did I spend on food this month?” and shows its sources
    • Growth coach: breaks down life goals, builds growth plans and reviews your progress with you

You decide which of your data it can read. Learn more about Lumi AI.

  • Which AI models does Lumi use?

It depends on your data region:

    • Global region: OpenAI, DeepSeek, and Anthropic’s Claude once our eligibility is confirmed. Users in Hong Kong and Macau get DeepSeek and other providers that support those regions.
    • Mainland China region (being prepared): once it launches, only registered domestic models, with DeepSeek as primary and Alibaba Cloud Bailian (Qwen) as backup; data stays in China. Until then, users in mainland China are served by DeepSeek (requests processed in mainland China), and AI inputs and outputs pass through a keyword content filter.

By default, Auto mode picks a suitable model for each task, and members can choose a preferred model. DeepSeek processes data in China. If no model is available, AI features pause; Lumi never shows simulated answers instead.

  • Can I use Lumi's AI in mainland China?

Yes. Lumi’s AI features are available to users in mainland China: chat, briefings, planning and the other AI features are served by DeepSeek, a domestically filed large language model, with requests processed in mainland China and never sent to OpenAI or Anthropic. AI inputs and outputs pass through a keyword content filter, and requests or answers found to violate the rules are blocked or stopped.

Lumi decides whether you’re in mainland China from the country or region and the time zone your device reports to Lumi. It doesn’t use GPS or your IP address.

Lumi’s servers are in Tokyo, Japan, so we ask for your separate consent to the cross-border transfer before anything you create is uploaded. The generative AI service registration is in progress, and we’ll publish the registration details once it’s complete. See the AI Service Terms.

  • What is a token, and why do models use different amounts?

Tokens are how Lumi measures AI usage. One standard token equals one token on our standard model, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. Other models count with a multiplier based on cost, for example standard ×1, advanced ×4, premium ×8 and flagship ×20–40.

You can expand any answer to see what it used, and big tasks show an estimate first so you can decide whether to go ahead. Multipliers are published, recalibrated when providers change their prices, and announced before they take effect.

  • What happens when I run out of tokens?

Your life records aren’t affected. Tasks, calendar, journal, money, habits and every other non-AI feature keep working as usual.

AI steps down gently: quick capture switches to local parsing, briefings become a plain summary of your data, and chat and analysis suggest a token pack or a membership upgrade. When your balance drops below 10%, Lumi reminds you once. Monthly tokens reset each billing period, and tokens you buy never expire.

  • Does Lumi train AI on my data?

No. Lumi never uses your data to train any model, and our agreements with model providers say they won’t train on it either and will keep it for the shortest time possible.

Before you use cloud AI for the first time, Lumi shows a single page explaining what data it reads, which provider receives it and why. AI stays off until you agree. See the AI Terms for details.

  • How do I control what Lumi can read?

In Settings → Lumi, switch access on or off by module. Journal, docs, tasks, calendar, money, habits, and goals and plans are on by default once you agree to use AI. Health data, and the email features coming later, need separate permission.

To keep a single journal entry or doc private, mark it “Don’t let Lumi read this.” Phone numbers, email addresses, ID numbers and card numbers are masked before anything is sent to a model.

  • What does Lumi remember about me, and can I manage it?

Lumi picks up useful things from your chats, journal and planning interviews, such as your preferences, goals and the people in your life. Every memory shows its source, and you can view, edit or delete any of them in Lumi’s Memory. You can also just say “forget this” in a chat.

Sensitive details such as health conditions, religion, political views, sexual orientation and financial account numbers are never memorized automatically unless you ask. The Lumi Activity Log shows everything Lumi has read, done and created.

  • Can Lumi change my data without asking?

    No. Lumi suggests; you decide.

    • Single actions you can undo, like adding a task or logging an expense: Lumi asks first. Only if you turn on auto-run for low-risk actions does it go ahead, with an Undo button.
    • Batch or structural changes: Lumi lists every item so you can check them and confirm.
    • Anything that affects other people or outside services, and anything irreversible such as deleting: Lumi always asks first.

Deleted items go to Recently Deleted for 30 days.

  • Is Lumi always right? Can I rely on it for professional advice?

Numbers about your own data, like how much you spent or how often you checked in, are calculated by the app, not guessed by the model. But AI-written text can still be wrong, so please double-check before any important decision.

Lumi isn’t a doctor, lawyer, financial advisor or therapist. It doesn’t diagnose or prescribe, doesn’t recommend specific investments or when to buy or sell, and gives only general information and official sources on legal and immigration questions. If you’re going through a crisis, Lumi points you to local help lines.

  • Is there an age requirement for AI features?

Yes. Lumi’s AI features require you to be at least 18, or the age required where you live.

The minimum age to create an account is 14 in mainland China and 13 elsewhere, or higher where local law requires. If you’re under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s consent, and you can use only the non-AI features. Parents and guardians can reach us at support@xicoai.com.

  • Why do Lumi's answers carry an "AI-generated" label?

So you can always tell what came from AI. In Lumi, AI answers carry the orb mark, and answers in conversations are labeled “AI-generated” by default.

When you export your data, the AI-generated content in the archive, including Lumi’s answers in conversations, briefings and insights, AI summaries of journal entries and reviews, growth-plan analyses and generated plan text, and the memories Lumi created, is labeled “AI-generated” in the Markdown files and tagged ai_generated in the JSON files. The archive also includes metadata naming the service provider. We apply these labels under China’s rules on labeling AI-generated content.

Plans & billing

  • What's the difference between Free, Pro and Max?

Every plan includes the core tools and sync across devices. The differences are limits, advanced features and your monthly tokens:

    • Free: 300,000 tokens a month on standard models; limits on habits, ledgers, goals and more
    • Pro: no limits and every advanced feature; 10 million tokens a month (5 million on CNY plans), with standard and advanced models
    • Max: 40 million tokens a month (20 million on CNY plans), every model including flagship, and priority at peak times

See the full comparison on pricing.

  • How much does a membership cost?

Prices are in US dollars or Chinese yuan, depending on where you are:

    • USD: Pro $9.99/month or $79.99/year; Max $29.99/month or $239.99/year
    • CNY: Pro ¥25/month, ¥68/quarter or ¥198/year; Max ¥78/month or ¥588/year

The free plan is $0 / ¥0. If you’d rather not subscribe, buy token packs instead, starting at $1.99 for 2 million tokens (¥6 for 1 million in CNY). The pricing page and the checkout screen show the final price.

  • Do purchased tokens expire?

No. Token packs you buy never expire, on every platform, and anyone can buy them, member or not.

Monthly tokens from your plan are valid for the current billing period only and reset at the next one; they don’t roll over. Lumi uses your monthly tokens first, then the ones you bought. Check your balance and usage by feature in Settings → Membership & Tokens → Token Wallet.

  • How do I cancel my subscription?

It depends on where you bought it:

    • iPhone or iPad: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Lumi → Cancel Subscription. Do this at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
    • Mac: open the App Store → click your name → Account Settings → Subscriptions → Manage.
    • Web: in Lumi for the web, go to Settings → Membership & Tokens → Manage subscription. Your membership stays active until the end of the period you paid for.

Note that deleting your Lumi account does not cancel an App Store subscription.

  • Is there a free trial?

Where trials are offered, yearly plans include a 7-day free trial. Lumi reminds you 2 days before the trial ends. If you don’t want to continue, cancel before it ends and you won’t be charged.

Before you subscribe, we show the renewal terms clearly. Before every renewal charge after that, we tell you when you’ll be charged, how much, and how to cancel. See the Subscription Terms.

  • Can I get a refund?

For purchases made through the App Store, Apple handles refunds. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support.

For purchases made on the web, email support@xicoai.com. We handle each request under applicable law and the payment provider’s rules.

If a token pack is refunded, your purchased balance is reduced to match and may go below zero for a while. Until you top up, every non-AI feature keeps working.

  • Is buying on the web different from buying in the App Store?

You get exactly the same benefits. Wherever you buy, your membership and tokens work on all your devices.

    • Apple devices: In-App Purchase, with auto-renewing subscriptions
    • Web (global): Stripe, with cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay
    • Web (mainland China): WeChat Pay and Alipay aren’t available yet; once they are, they’ll start with quarterly and yearly plans that don’t renew automatically

We never store your card number.

  • Will Lumi ever show ads?

No, never. Lumi is paid for by memberships and tokens, not ads, and we don’t sell your personal information.

That’s our promise as a premium product: your attention and your life’s records belong to you. Exporting your data is free for everyone too, so you can take it with you whenever you like.

Privacy & security

  • Where is my data stored?

Today, Lumi’s servers, database and file storage run on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Tokyo, Japan, and current backups are kept locally on the production server on a rolling schedule. Amazon S3 off-site backups are not enabled.

A mainland China data region on Alibaba Cloud is being prepared. When it launches, mainland China users’ data will be stored in China. Until then, if you use Lumi in mainland China, your data is stored and processed in Japan. That’s a cross-border transfer, so the first time you sign in, Lumi asks for your separate consent, and nothing you create is uploaded until you agree. See the Privacy Policy.

  • Is my data encrypted?

Everything is encrypted in transit. At rest, here is exactly what is and isn’t encrypted:

    • In transit: everything travels over HTTPS (TLS), with HSTS.
    • Original messages (including embedded attachments) and inbox metadata are encrypted with a key unique to each user, as are mailbox OAuth tokens and IMAP authorization codes or app passwords. The server decrypts them to provide the feature; this is not end-to-end encryption. Confirmation cards, saved records and separately stored attachment copies use the normal content storage described above.
    • Your content: journal entries, docs, tasks, calendar, money, habits, goals, AI chats and memories, and attachments are stored in the database and file storage on our servers in Tokyo (AWS). They have no additional application-layer encryption and no end-to-end encryption. Strict access controls protect them instead: our admin console has no screen that shows this content.
    • Backups: periodic local copies on the production server in Tokyo, protected by access controls and retained on a rolling schedule. Amazon S3 off-site backups are not enabled; a copy on the same server does not cover loss of that server.
    • Sign-in and authorizations: passwords are stored only as salted scrypt hashes. Calendar authorization tokens, iCloud app-specific passwords and Sign in with Apple tokens are encrypted with a key unique to you, and that key is destroyed when you delete your account.

Learn more on our Security page.

  • Does your staff look at my content?

No. Our admin console has no screen that shows your journal, docs, tasks, transactions or AI chats. Staff see only account details, subscriptions and billing, and usage counts. The console requires two-factor sign-in, and every action in it is audit-logged. Direct access to our servers and database is limited to a few authorized engineers using key-based login.

The only exception is feedback you choose to send us, including anything you attach to it. Learn more on our Security page.

  • How do I export all my data?

In the web app, go to Settings → Privacy & Data → Export All Data; in the Apple apps, Settings → Account & Security → Export My Data. Lumi packs your data into one zip file:

    • JSON for all your data
    • Markdown for journal entries and docs
    • CSV for your money transactions

Attachment files such as photos aren’t in the archive for now; the Markdown files link to them. AI-generated content is labeled “AI-generated”. You can download the archive for 24 hours after it’s created. Export is free for everyone, because your data always belongs to you.

  • How does Lumi handle my health data?

Health data is entirely optional. Connecting Apple Health, which arrives with the iPhone and iPad apps, needs your separate consent. The data is used only for health-related features such as goals, automatic habit check-ins and reviews. It’s never used for ads and never stored in iCloud.

Letting Lumi analyze your health data needs its own permission too, and daily summaries are sent to AI rather than details wherever possible. You can withdraw consent at any time and choose to delete any uploaded health summaries.

  • Does Lumi track me?

No. Lumi has no ads and doesn’t track you across apps or websites.

    • Website: no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts.
    • App: neither the web app nor the Apple apps include an analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Our server records only which days your account used Lumi (to count active users and retention) and the usage of each AI call (feature, model, token counts and the like, never content).
    • Location: Lumi never gets your location in the background. It saves only places you add yourself: by typing a place name, tapping “Use current location” in the web app, or turning on “Keep photo locations” (off by default). Location data is always removed from photo and video files before they’re stored.

Account

  • How can I sign in?

    Lumi supports:

    • Sign in with Apple, Google, WeChat or QQ
    • A one-time code sent to your email or phone (phone numbers are +86 only for now)
    • Email or phone number with a password

The options on the sign-in screen depend on your device and region. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash, so we never see your password.

  • I forgot my password. What should I do?

On the sign-in screen, choose to reset your password and enter your email or phone number. We’ll send a 6-digit code that’s valid for 10 minutes. Enter it and set a new password of at least 8 characters.

For your security, resetting your password signs you out on all other devices. You can also sign in with an email or phone code, or with a linked Apple, Google, WeChat or QQ account.

  • How do I change my email address or phone number?

In Settings → Account & Security, choose to change your email or phone number. We’ll send a code to the new address or number, and the change is done once you verify it. Phone numbers are +86 only for now.

From then on, sign-in codes and password resets go to the new email or number, and if you’ve set a password, you can sign in with it too.

  • How do I see my signed-in devices or sign out remotely?

Settings → Account & Security lists every device that’s signed in. You can sign out of any one of them, or sign out of all other devices at once.

You’ll also find your security activity from the last 90 days there, including sign-ins, new devices, password changes, linking and unlinking, exports and deletion requests. If you see a device you don’t recognize, sign it out right away and change your password.

  • How do I delete my account?

Request it in the Apple apps under Settings → Account & Security → Delete Account, or in Lumi for the web under Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete Account. A 7-day cooling-off period follows: sign in during those 7 days and choose to restore your account to cancel.

After 7 days, we delete all your data and files, including attachments, data exports and feedback screenshots. We revoke your connected calendars’ authorizations and revoke Lumi’s Sign in with Apple authorization at Apple. Data in local backups is deleted when the corresponding backups expire on the rolling retention schedule. Any remaining membership time and purchased tokens are forfeited. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an App Store subscription. See Account Deletion.
